300g Flour
300g Sugar
4 Eggs
150ml Oil
150ml Orange Juice
1 Pkge Baking Powder

Mix all the solid ingredients together then add the rest. Whisk them tightly.
Set the oven to 160 degrees and bake them for 25 minutes.

The frosting

Yum Yum Vanilla Frosting

A lot powdered sugar
3 tsp Butter
3 tsp Milk
Vanilla (Use Vanilla Beans! Use them, i know they are kinda expensive, but even the low level ones are a lot better then the flavoured vanilla sugar! It's definitely worth it!)

Now combine Frosting and dough.
Decorate them as you like..! :)

errr... Coq au vin.

Today I had my first try cooking Coq au vin. Awesomelicious!

The recipe:

Ingredients

40g Bacon
20g Butter
250g Onions
250g Champignons
50g Cognac
1 Bay leaf
Thyme
Garlic
Flour
1/8l Broth
1/8l Red Wine
Baguette
Chicken (super important)

Preheat the oven to 225 °. Put the butter in the saucepan and fry the bacon till it's crispy. Lift the bacon with a slotted spoon out of the frying fat, drain it and set it aside. Wash the chicken, dry it and cut it into four parts.
Put it in the frying fat, joint it shortly, remove it and keep it warm. Pour the halved onions and the halved mushrooms into the frying fat and simmer it briefly. Take them out again and place the chicken back into the pot. Slightly heat the cognac into two portions (otherwise the flame is too high). Now light it and pour the burning over the chicken. (Damn that!!!! Take care of your kitchen) Shake the pan until the flame disappears...
Put the bay leaf, thyme and garlic slices in the gravy with flour and cook it a little.
For the sauce from the Coq au vin Pour put broth first and then add the red wine. Bacon onions, and mushrooms back to the coq au vin and cover the pot.
Roast it in a preheated oven at 225 ° for about 30 minutes on the medium level. Then remove the lid and cook the coq au vin a further 15 minutes.

NOW: FINALLY. Finished! =D

Exhausting recipe... But it's worth it!

Just checking out the steaks..

Donnerstag, 28. April 2011 0 Kommentare

Second post in no time.

Tonight I was checking out the steaks at Grill Royal, based at the waterside of Berlin. Directly at the Spree, next to the station at Friedrichsstraße.
It was something like a late birthday dinner with my mother and sister.
Reservations are important at this location. Otherwise you have to wait a really long time to get seated. Luckily I decided to go there this noon and got a table around 7PM.
After checking out the menu we decided to take the Porterhouse Steak. (I usually take the Porterhouse, 'cause I really prefer the cut.)
The wine was quiet expensive - a bit too expensive but my mum and took a glas of a nice flavoured red wine. Spätburgunder. Good choice, good recommendation of our waiter.

After round about an hour waiting we finally got our steak served. The steak and side orders were really great and delicious. Even the dessert, a white chocolate cake with maracuja and manga sorbét, was great. Nothing to complain about.

The only things I would complain about is the noisy atmosphere and the restaurant itself has sadly no flair at all.
But they really serve one of the best steaks in Berlin. (and not many restaurants are serving Porterhouse! for sure that's awesomelicious!)

Introduction

Hi folks,

my name is Laura Li and I'm a 23 year old student. I'm currently studying Game Art & Animation at the Games Academy based in Berlin. Germanys good old capital.
In my free time I love to cook for my friends, the most of them aren't really skilled in cooking or just to lazy to get away from frozen pizza or other fast food. Testing my own cooking skill and of course new recipes is one of my hobbies besides sitting in front of my computer. One of my other hobbies is travelling, discovering the world and needless to say: it's food.

Even though Berlin is not well known for it's cuisine I will show you the good and bad sides of dining in this city and all over the world.
It was only a question of time till I start writing a blog about food. I'm already getting on the nerves of my facebook friends anyway with posting pictures of delicious thingys.

So this blogs' for one of the best things life is worth living for. Food.

Restaurant reviews, critics, recipes and recommendations by me.

cheers
